It’s an unfamiliar and solitary plant that I found among the dunes on our local beach, and it is probably missed by regular beach-goers slogging back and forth through the dune line. I noticed it only because I was on a photographic treasure hunt that particular morning. It’s a rather diminutive plant but spectacular in its colors, attractive in form and in the ways it has adapted to its sandy wind-blown environment. I made a portrait to honor it.
